INSURANCE

From its inception in 1992, ASTECH InterMedia maintained a policy of 100 percent employer-paid premiums for medical, vision, dental, and short- and long-term disability insurance coverages. Unfortunately, after enduring several years of double-digit increases in insurance premiums, we were forced to re-think our benefits strategy.

In May 2004, the decision was made to ask employees to share in a small portion of the premiums in order to provide better long-term protection for salaries. Employees without dependents have 5% of the premium cost deducted on a pre-tax basis; employees with dependents have 10% of the premium cost deducted on a pre-tax basis. These deductions compare very favorably with the national averages of 16% and 27%, respectively.

ASTECH still pays for 100% of the short and long-term disability coverages. Our current providers are:
